Big Bear, Baby!

We headed to down to Big Bear, CA last weekend for our annual vacation with my family. It was a fun  activity filled couple of days. We all arrived late Thursday night, so things didn't really get started until Friday morning. We kicked things off with a quad lift ride up to the top of Snow Summit ski resort and a picnic on to of the mountain. It was so beautiful up there and we could not have asked for better weather! The cousins had a great time running around and exploring.

After lunch, we divided up. The Quarders and the Malans rode the lift back to the bottom, while Grandma and Grandpa, Megan and Kylie and us hiked down. My stupid, arthritic knees lasted about about 200 yards down the hill before they were screaming in protest, not good when the trail is 1 1/2 miles long. So frustrating, and though I'm glad I did it, I have no interest in going through that again! Kylie and Jenna had to much fun, and Jenna was a champ! I was crazy impressed with how well my Dad did with his back injury and all. He even gave up his hiking poles about half way down so that I could use them. We were also joined by two random dogs who Kylie and Jenna fell head over heals for. They were much better at listening to Ky then they were Jenna, who spent the rest of the hike calling to them. It was really quite stunning up there and it was great to get a little time in nature.

The kids put on a kazoo/noise maker parade with Grandma and Grandpa. (They were in heaven!)
There was lots of Buzz Lightyear, giant cowboy hats, playing in cupboards, spinning wheels, and mud! All the very best stuff for kids of all ages.
There was dancing in the rain and huddling up in the sauna. There were too many kids in the tub and great family meals around the giant dining room table.
There was a ton of crafting; alphabet stickers on construction paper, tie dying shirts, bead & pipe cleaner jewelry, and sticker stories.  There was bocce ball, left, right, center, and an attempt at Settlers of Catan (which was a giant fail).

I took family pictures of my brother, Scoot's family and my sister, Sara's family. I think I'm getting a little better. Still have a lot to learn, but I learn a little something else each time it seems like.
We had a fabulous talent show, spurred on by Ms. Kylie Mae and her excellent gymnastics.

On the last day, Jenna got her second ever hair cut. Thanks again, Aunt Jen!
And then we all headed to the Big Bear Reserve/Zoo. Jenna loved seeing the big bad wolf and birds.

Then we headed to the park for a picnic, playing, and finally our good-byes. Yet another fun weekend. I am so grateful for the efforts my whole family goes through to get here and allow us all to get time together. So often if feels as though our time together is rushed when I am in town and these trips allow for much calmer time together. I think it is especially wonderful for the cousins to solidify relationships with both each other and with their aunts and uncles. Love you all and can't wait to do it all over again next year!

San Diego...Again

Let me start by stating my gratitude for iPads on airplanes. Makes our life easy!
We did a very quick trip to San Diego this weekend for the wedding of my best friend from high school, Kristie Smedsrud. It was an absolutely beautiful, serene, tender, intimate affair. It was just what I imagined for her and I couldn't be more happy. She seems thoroughly smitten as does Tim and I wish them nothing but happiness and love.  Congratulations Tim & Kristie!

The blurry is what happens when Casey takes the pic...love that boy.
The next morning we used our season tickets and did a couple hours at Sea World with the Quarders. We got there a little before them and so we spent a that time trying to get Jenna over her fear of giant characters. It was funny because she had to problem giving the penguin high five and was very interested in the turtle....
...but this was absolutely as close as she would get to the walrus or the otter. Wanted absolutely NOTHING to do with them. But had to problem sending mom and then dad over to say hi to the walrus and get him to wave at her. Funny, funny little girl.

After Sea World we met up with the rest of my family at my sister, Megan's new place for a birthday party for my mom. Happy birthday, Motherhead!

We tried to get pictures of her with each of the grandkids, since she is moving to Kaysville this week. I know she is not looking forward to living away from them. I think they turned out great! I have such cute nieces and nephew.
Kylie, 7
Chloe, 3
Cooper,  2
Jenna, 2
Shiloh, 2
Ashtyn, 1
After pizza and cupcakes, we all walked over to the park for some kid fun and picture taking!
Yep, that seven pair of blue eyes you're seeing

My mom and sisters. Love them all!

San Diego

My step-father, Bob Chambers ended up passing away from a heart attack on May 10. My mom and his family had a memorial service for him on the 21st. I was grateful they chose that day because it meant we would be able to attend since we were already going to be in San Diego last weekend for my brother in law, Chris' MBA graduation.

It was very busy, fairly draining trip this time. I was very tired and emotional drained. There were some good times as well. My youngest sister,  Megan, Megan Bo Began aka Jose Bo Began is the story time lady at her local library. I love that she does this and it was so fun to go watch her do her thing.

I am crazy proud of Chris. What a huge commitment, getting an MBA. Well done, Chris!

After the actual graduation, Sara and Chris hosted a fabulous party at their house. It was such a good time. I know Chris was a little uncomfortable with that much attention being directed his way, but I was so glad to see so much support and love around him. He deserves it.

Sara gave a really tender toast. I am incredibly grateful that my sister married her best friend and for how much love they have for each other. They have a very special relationship.

Cutie Patootie Chloe

Cooper and Chris. So darling!

Grandpa and Shiloh

Casey and Jenna aka Rapunzel
Chris loving the taco cart vendor (how cool is that). Sara, my cousin Dori, and me. Chris' aunt & family. My motherhead. And cake stealing Shiloh.

The memorial for Bobareno was very nice. Afterward, there was wake/open mic at Bob's mom's home.

After a "quick" stop at my Dad's {who did his fatherly duty to make sure the car was ready for the trip} we got home late yesterday. Jenna was a champ, once again. Which I was very grateful for. I had really strong winds and lots of traffic, so I'm glad she was good since I was driving by myself.
