Kim's Tea Party Baby Shower

Heather Kearl, Tasha Hadley, and I hosted a baby shower for Kim Henrie tonight. We did a tea party theme and it turned out fantastic, if I do say so myself. I had scoured the local DI, thrift stores, and consignments shops in search for tea cups, tea pots, and china plates. They looked awesome, so eclectic. We used white tulle to cover the chairs, and then used various colors of tulle tied in a bow at the back to pull it all together. Heather, Kim and I went to garage sales and bought linen napkins (we told Kim they were for Allie's birthday party). We lit tea light candles and had fresh flowers throughout. It looked so lovely. It was so fun seeing everyone dressed up. The food was delicious. Heather and Tasha made cucumber sandwiches, egg salad sandwiches, and chicken salad sandwiches. We also had two different kind of scones, mini muffins (provided by Heather Wadsworth and Diane Dutson), a veggie tray, and chocolate covered strawberries. Heather also made a fabulous lemon cream cake. We had ice water, pink lemonade with Sprite and strawberries, and Sprite with sliced cucumbers to drink. It was quite a spread. Everyone had such a great time and Kim deserved every second of it!

Casey's birthday & Father's Day

We had such a great day today. Casey's 38th birthday falling on Father's Day this year was an added little bonus for his first Father's Day as a Dad. Casey and Matt wanted to go up to Zion's for lunch and a little hike. It was a beautiful day up there. It was certainly hot, but not overwhelmingly so. Casey seemed pleased with how his day went. Jenna got her Dad book, and I made him a Weber State t-shirt quilt (with a tremendous amount of help from Kim and Heather). He also got some clothes from his mom and brother. Good times all around!

We also got a little video of Jenna playing peek-a-boo...cracks me up!

Family Golf Outing

Jenna and I joined Casey for an evening round of golf. Jenna was quite keen to drive the golf cart. She was, as always, a dream. Casey, who has rather high expectations for his golf games was less then pleased with his performance...I thought he did great. But as is the new m.o. for our lives these days Jenna was the high light.

Sting!

Sara and I went to the Sting concert last night. It was such a good time, we FROZE, but it was totally worth it. He performed with the Royal Philharmonic, who were amazing. Not sure which was my favorite song, he just has so many great ones. LOVE that he mentioned the World Cup. And Sara and I always have a great time together. Can't wait for the next concert...wonder who we will see this time.

Family Photos

We were able to reschedule our family pictures tonight. Kim, yet again, did an amazing job!

Are you leaning? Because it looks like your leaning

So, Jenna has started doing this new thing where she tilts her head to one side or the other and grins at you. I tried to capture it a couple times at work today. Don't think I really got a great shot, hopefully one day I will be able to capture it.

Then Papa Stuey arrived and the cuddlefest began...

Supermodel

So my stunning friend, Kim Henrie was supposed to take our family pictures last night but Casey never made it in time. (He got stuck hiking the Subway in Zion's with the scouts.) So we ended up taking individual shots of Jenna and some of Jenna and me. I seriously cannot decide which one I like best. I realize I am biased, but my darling one is the most beautiful girl in the whole wide world. Enjoy a few (or a lot) of the shots...

Adoption Finalization

We finalized the adoption today. It was such an amazing experience. Our judge, The Honorable Eric Ludlow, was so kind. Casey's friend and co-worker Todd Emerson agreed to be our lawyer for the procedures. He was amazing! After we were sworn in, Todd asked us a series of questions, starting with Casey. i.e. full name, age, how long we had been married, (cute Casey was so nervous he totally spaced on what our anniversary is. It was pretty funny.), if we have a good marriage, etc. Casey was so choked up, it was very sweet. Then it was my turn; full name, if I was a minimum of 10 years older then the child we were going to adopt (chivalrously not asking my age), whether she had been in our care since she was born, that we plan to care of her and raise her as if she were our natural child, etc. Then he asked our social worker, Kristy Barlow, of Children's Aid Society, a series of questions; who she works for, what her title is, whether she was licensed, if she had done our home study and found us to be fit parents, if she performed our post placement visits, the child's condition during the post placements, whether Courtney relinquished her rights, etc. Todd then submitted documents into the court records; our petition for adoption, the pre and post adoption evaluations, our background checks, the affidavit of adoption fees, and the finding of fact. The judge then reiterated to both of Casey and I that we understood that we were now 100% responsible for Jenna physically, emotionally, and financially including all rights of inheritance. He then asked me to read into the court records the names of all the fabulous friends and family that were in attendance in the galley. Until this point I had done pretty well at holding it together. But when I turned to see all the faces of love sitting behind us, I gave up the cause for lost. I introduced my mother-in-law Lorrie Madsen, and brother-in-law Matthew Madsen, our dear friends Nick and Liisa Frei, Brett Berry and Stuart Breinholt. The judge then read the Decree of Adoption (at which point, tears really started streaming), and I quote, "The Court, after having heard testimony in the matter of the adoption of Jenna Rose [last name of the birth mother], hereby decrees that Jenna shall be the lawful child of Petitioners Maclyn and Kate Malan Madsen, and that said child's name be legally changed to Jenna Rose Malan Madsen." signed The Honorable Eric A. Ludlow. My whole being was emitting love and awe. It was a moment I will never forget, and I was so grateful to have such loving people surrounding us to share it with us.

New hair

I decided to dye my hair red. I LOVE it. It's still a little darker than I think I want, but it will fade.

Memorial Day

We had a GREAT Memorial Day! We took Jenna swimming for the first time at the Frei home. (They are such amazing and generous hosts) Jenna loved jumping on the trampoline with her Uncle Matt and enjoyed her time with Stuart's granddaughter and her "Uncle" Bretty. She is such a great baby and so easy going. We feel so incredibly lucky!
